Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Set up and log in with MFA, and recovery codes

Updated over 8 months ago

Add an additional layer of security to your MindFi account by adding one or more multi-factor authentication (MFA) methods. When a login from a new device or any unusual activity is detected, you’ll be asked to enter a verification code to make sure that it’s indeed you who is trying to log in.

We support MFA via a phone number and/or an authenticator app. On the Mobile App, you can only set up a phone number. On the Web App, you can set up both a phone number and an authenticator app.

Setting up MFA

Phone number authentication

The steps are similar for both the Web and Mobile Apps. The only difference is the way to access the MFA Settings on the apps.

Web App:

Access Settings on the Web App by clicking on your profile pic at the top right corner > click on Settings > click on Multi-factor authentication under the Account security section

Mobile App:

Access Settings on the Mobile App by tapping on the rings icon on the top right corner of the Home tab > tap on the gear icon on the Activity screen > scroll down to the Multi-factor authentication section

Steps from here onwards are generally the same for both apps:

  1. Click on Add phone number

  2. Select the country code and enter your phone number. The number should not contain the country code, spaces or dashes

  3. Click on Send code

  4. Enter the 6 digit code sent to you via SMS

    1. You can resend the code via SMS or phone call after 60 seconds

  5. Once the code is verified, you will see a list of recovery codes. Download or print the codes and keep it somewhere safe and accessible

Authenticator app authentication

This is only applicable for the Web App. Access Settings on the Web App by clicking on your profile pic at the top right corner > click on Settings > click on Multi-factor authentication under the Account security section

  1. Click on Add authenticator app

  2. On your phone, download and install an authenticator app, like Google Authenticator

  3. From the authenticator app, scan the QR code shown on the page

  4. Enter the code shown on the authenticator app

  5. Once the code is verified, you will see a list of recovery codes. Download or print the codes and keep it somewhere safe and accessible

Logging in with MFA

If you have set up at least one MFA method, we will ask you for an additional verification code if we detect a login from a different device or unusual activity after you log in.

Depending on the method you have set up, you will see a screen asking for a verification code after you have logged in.

If you are facing problems with the verification method, you can choose another method, use a recovery code, or contact our support team for assistance.

Recovery codes

After setting up a MFA method, you will be shown a list of 6-digit codes, known as recovery codes. Each code can be used only once to gain access to your account should you not be able to complete MFA using phone number or authenticator app. Hence, it's important to keep the codes somewhere private, safe, and accessible.

View the codes any time from the Multi-factor authentication page by entering your email and password. The codes can be regenerated whenever needed. After doing so, always remember to store them safely.
